簡介：明末吳三桂引清兵入關，闖王派三大勇士苗、範、田突圍召援，獨留第四名勇士胡護駕。當三人返回卻發現闖王失蹤，而胡則成爲吳三桂的鷹犬，于是三人以胡賣國爲罪名將其斬首。其實，胡潛伏吳三桂軍中，只是爲了爲靜待時機以助闖王再得天下。可是禍根從此種下，在以後的年月裏，四家後代便展開連串仇殺，一直到胡家第四代胡一刀，這仇殺也沒有了結。胡一刀很想找到另三家的後代說明當年的事實真相，可是此三家後人卻正在爲爭奪明室寶藏，而大打出手，並葬身一冰洞，胡一刀心中的話終于也未能說出。爲了警世後人，胡一刀唯有將前世情愁記下並封于洞內，然後與愛人郎劍秋退隱江湖。
這之後，田家第四代後人田歸農設下陷阱使得胡一刀與苗家後人苗人鳳決戰，並暗中下毒殺害胡一刀和郎劍秋二人。郎劍秋臨終前將剛剛生下的胡斐交予忠實的仆人平四，並且囑托平四帶著胡斐查明真相。
平四一直認爲殺害胡一刀夫婦的是苗人鳳，于是一心教導胡斐專心習武代父複仇。胡斐與平四在尋找苗人鳳的途中結識了女扮男裝的小流氓麽一一（原著中的程靈素），兩人成莫逆之交。而後胡斐更邂逅苗人鳳之女苗若蘭和農女聶桑青（原著中的袁紫衣）並由此展開一段纏繞不清的戀情。而當胡斐最終與苗人鳳相遇並于雪山一決勝負，這曆代的恩怨也已經悄然化解。
